The Carey Food Pantry received the 2014 Community Service Award presented by the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. on August 21st at Hawkins Corner in Ontario. Since 1983, the Carey Food Pantry has been serving the community not only with food but with compassion. The first year the Pantry reached 49 families. In 2013, they served 1,010 families. Most of the volunteers at the Pantry are volunteers, and they are a real inspiration. The Pantry receives no state or federal funding and is solely supported by the community, local churches and civic organizations.
State Representative Jeff McClain presented the Pantry volunteers with a proclamation.
Duana Patton, Chief Executive Officer of the Area Agency on Aging states “By recognizing these award recipients today, I hope the contributions made by the individuals in their communities are an inspiration to all, regardless of age. Community service can begin at any age and is something you can do for a lifetime.”
