Ontario OH – The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Inc. is proud to announce American Legion of Ashland has been selected as the 2019 Community Service Award. American Legion, along with the Outstanding Senior Citizens and the Safe Driver Recipients, were honored on Thursday, Aug. 22 at a ceremony hosted at Hawkins Corner.
American Legion of Ashland was nominated by Mary Ann Dull.
Members of the Harry Higgins Post 88 of the American Legion in Ashland provided many commitments to community service.
Members donated volunteer services to the bloodmobile, church, hunger centers, food banks, American Red Cross, Associated Charities, Senior Citizens Center, hospitals and nursing homes.
With all the post members working together in the community, they make a difference. Volunteerism by post members in community activities outside of the post is encouraged. There are few things in life more rewarding than giving their time to help the community.

Each year the Area Agency on Aging honors an organization, agency, service club, business, or media outlet that is making a difference in their communities on behalf of senior citizens.
There is only one award recipient selected from the Agency’s nine county service area (Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca, and Wyandot.)
The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc., located at 2131 Park Avenue West in Ontario, provides leadership, collaboration, coordination and services to older adults, people with disabilities, their caregivers & resource networks that support individual choice, independence and dignity.
