Area Agency on Aging selects Rudelle Gilbert as 2016 Outstanding Senior Citizen for Morrow County

Ontario OH – The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Inc. is proud to announce Rudelle “Rudy” Gilbert has been selected as the 2016 Outstanding Senior Citizen for Morrow County. She and eight other recipients were honored on Thursday, August 25 at a ceremony hosted at Hawkins Corner.


Gilbert dedicates much of her time to community service. A member of Edison United Methodist Church, Gilbert serves at steak suppers, bake sales, and rummage sales for the church and was recognized as “Edison United Methodist Church Woman of the Year”. Each month she volunteers at a church in Cardington to help prepare more than 300 bag lunches for low-income individuals. Gilbert is also a member of the Chester Arbor of the Gleaner Fraternal Insurance Society and the Morrow County Society for Crippled Children.


Each year the Area Agency on Aging honors senior citizens who are making a difference in their communities and present a positive image of aging.


There is one award recipient for each county in the Agency’s service area (Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca, and Wyandot, respectfully.)


Awardees must first be nominated by an individual or organization involved with seniors. They are then selected by the Agency based on the impact of their contributions and accomplishments within the community made after reaching age 60.


Additionally, the following residents of Morrow County received the 2016 Safe Driver Award at the ceremony: Sandy Bachelder, Roger Counts, Joe Pukansky, and Kat Taylor.
