Home Energy Assistance Program Helps Ohioans Stay Warm

Ontario OH – Are you having trouble paying your heating bills? The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) may be able to help. HEAP is designed to help eligible people meet the high cost of home heating. Eligibility will depend on household income and the primary fuel you use to heat your home.


The house hold must have a gross income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty level. For a family of four, the annual income must be at or below $42, 525. Copies of the following documents must be sent in to be approved for assistance:


  • Proof of income

  • Copies of most recent energy bills

  • Photo ID

  • List of all household members with social security numbers and birth dates

  • Proof of US citizenship/ legal residency for all household members
