The late Alice Gray was chosen as the Knox County 2014 Outstanding Senior Citizen by the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. Mrs. Gray’s son, Lloyd accepted the award August 21st at Hawkins Corner. Alice was a volunteer in the summer reading program at South Vernon in cooperation with Columbia Elementary School. She also visited patients in local nursing homes and was a volunteer at the Country Court Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon. She also shared her love of crafting with her garden clubs. She was a Communion Steward at South Vernon United Methodist Church, a member of the church council, and the church’s Nurture Committee.
Duana Patton, Chief Executive Officer of the Area Agency on Aging states “By recognizing these award recipients today, I hope the contributions made by the individuals in their communities are an inspiration to all, regardless of age. Community service can begin at any age and is something you can do for a lifetime.”
In addition, seven Safe Driving Awards were given in recognition of transportation service drivers throughout the aging services network in Crawford County.
