Local Grocers to Receive First USDA Midwest Region Golden Grocer Award

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. is very pleased to announce the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) grocery store partners will be receiving the USDA Golden Grocery Award on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Area Agency on Aging Annex, 800 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, Ohio.   

The Area Agency on Aging nominated the stores for their participation in partnering to provide SNAP outreach to customers.  A SNAP outreach booth was set up at the grocery store where seniors were pre-screened at the store for enrollment in the SNAP program. 

The five grocery store partners receiving the award are; Cornell’s IGA in Shelby, Geyer’s Market in Mansfield, Geyer’s Market in Lexington, Stoodt’s Market in Bellville, Hitchman’s Market in Butler. 

This is the FIRST Golden Grocer award in USDA Midwest Region that consists of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.  Representatives from USDA and the Ohio Retailer’s Association will be presenting the grocery stores their award.
