Jean Smith was chosen as the Morrow County 2014 Outstanding Senior Citizen by the Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. Jean accepted the award August 21st at Hawkins Corner, Ontario, Ohio. Jean was an initiating factor in establishing the Cardington Community Food Pantry in 2010. At that time, the pantry served an average of 35 families per month and now serves 100 families per month. In addition to her volunteer work, Jean has been instrumental in sponsoring and facilitating Maxwell Park, a bike and walkway along the waterfront in Cardington.
Jean received proclamations from State Representative Jeff McClain, Congressman Patrick Tiberi and Morrow County Commissioners.
Duana Patton, Chief Executive Officer of the Area Agency on Aging states “By recognizing these award recipients today, I hope the contributions made by the individuals in their communities are an inspiration to all, regardless of age. Community service can begin at any age and is something you can do for a lifetime.”
In addition, four Safe Driving Awards were given in recognition of transportation service drivers throughout the aging services network in Morrow County.
