Every year in May, Older Americans Month celebrates older adults nationwide. From raising children to careers and legacies, older Americans give back to the community in many ways. Whether they mentored a student, helped pass out food at a pantry or served our country, each deserve recognition.
Older Americans Month also serves to raise awareness concerning elder abuse and neglect. We must protect our older population from the risks of abuse and neglect. One way is to maintain involvement in community and social activities. This helps maintain our overall health and vitality.
Take this opportunity to look within your community to see what celebrations are happening that you could take part in. Visit https://aging.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/aging/see-news-and-events/special-events/older-americans-month for more information.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions this year, we will be celebrating our seniors with a drive-thru festival! Seniors will enjoy the event from their cars. All sponsors will be set up along a driving route through the fairground. Included at this event will be live entertainment from local singing group, EKG. There will also be door prizes, bingo, and a free lunch for all attending.
