Falls are more common than many people realize. One in three Ohioans age 60 and older will experience a fall this year. A fall can lead to serious injury and may have a lasting impact on a person’s independence and quality of life. But falls are not a normal part of aging, and many can be prevented. Regular physical activity, including something as simple as walking, is one-way older adults can help improve strength, balance, and overall health.
The event celebrates National Falls Prevention Awareness Month and is part of the statewide effort, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Aging, to take “10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls.” Attendees can also get information and resources focused on balance, home and personal safety, mobility, and practical fall-prevention strategies.
