10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls Walk to take place on Sept 29

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ontario, OH – The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. invites the public to join a Prevention Walk on Monday, September 29, to raise awareness about falls prevention. This event is a collaboration between the Area Agency on Aging and Richland County Mobility Management.

The walk will take place on the B&O Bike Trail, starting at North Lake Park, 625 Hope Road in Mansfield, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Participants are welcome to join at any time—no registration is required. For more information, call 567-247-6487.

This event celebrates National Falls Prevention Awareness Month and highlights ways older Ohioans can reduce their risk of falls. The Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Aging, encourages all Ohioans to help take “10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls.” Resources and information on safety, balance, falls prevention, and mobility management will be available during the walk.

Did you know that one in three Ohioans over age 60 will experience a fall this year? For many, a fall can result in a serious injury or even be life-changing. However, falls are not a normal part of aging, and most can be prevented. Regular physical activity, such as walking, is one of the most effective ways older adults can protect themselves.

Free RCT bus rides to and from the event are available by calling 419-522-4504.

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc., located at 2131 Park Avenue West in Ontario, provides leadership, collaboration, coordination and services to older adults, people with disabilities, their caregivers & resource networks that support individual choice, independence and dignity.
